Quick action keeps fire from spreading

BLUEFIELD — Quick action by city firefighters confined fire and smoke damage to some third floor rooms Friday evening after a structure fire was reported on Wythe Avenue in Bluefield.

The Bluefield Fire Department was dispatched approximately 7:45 p.m., to a home at 2114 Wythe Ave. after an attic fire was reported. The occupants were able to leave the home and no injuries were reported, said Capt. S.A. McKenzie.

The attic was divided into bedrooms, he said. Fire and smoke damage were contained on the third floor. The rest of the home could still be inhabited.
