Vehicle pulled from Kee Dam in Mercer County, no injuries

BLUEFIELD — A Mercer County man escaped injury Thursday after his vehicle rolled into the Kee Dam.

The accident occurred just before 11 a.m. A dive team with the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department was able to locate the vehicle around 4:30 p.m. It was subsequently pulled from the water by crews with Mercer Wrecker Service. The Raleigh County-based rescue unit was contacted because dive teams from Bluefield and Princeton were not available Thursday to respond to the accident.

The driver of the vehicle became sick and pulled off the road. However, he apparently either left the vehicle in drive or failed to put it in park, and the vehicle rolled into the water, Deputy W.E. Rose of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office said.

Rose said the vehicle — a 2013 Kia — floated about 40 to 50 feet into the water before being submerged.
