JOLO – —
A local man died Thursday after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle on Route 83.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. at a gas station off Route 83 in Jolo, according to Trooper J.R. Coburn of the West Virginia State Police detachment in Welch.
“The motorcycle was hit by a vehicle that failed to yield the right of way,” Coburn said.
Coburn said the motorcycle’s rider, David Wayne Blankenship, 40, of Jolo died while in route to Welch Community Hospi-tal. The driver of the car was transported to Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Va. She did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, he said.
The driver, whose name was not released Thurs-day, was cited for failure to yield the right of way, Coburn said. The crash is still under investigation. Members of the Bradshaw Volunteer Fire Department and McDowell County Ambulance Authority were also dispatched to the scene.
