Broken fire hydrant sends water into Princeton neighborhood

PRINCETON —  Water poured into a New Hope Road community this afternoon after a motorist struck and broke a fire hydrant on Guard Drive.

The incident happened approximately 11:45 a.m. when the hydrant was damaged. Jason Knowles, a specialist with West Virginia American Water, said a vehicle either struck or backed over the hydrant and knocked it off an eight-inch water main.

Water flowed down the hillside and into nearby Kim Street, but it did not get into local homes. Two homeowners said water reached their garages, but did not do any significant damage.
