BLUEFIELD — Click here for slideshow of All-American Celebration:
An All-American celebration with free hot dogs, apple pies and patriotic music filled Chicory Square this morning in downtown Bluefield.
Sponsored by Cole Chevrolet, the show featured free hot dogs prepared by the Internet Cafe and free apple pies provided by Hardee’s on Bluefield Avenue were offered along with free popcorn and free American flags. Free face painting by Brandi Huffman and Emilee Huffman of BEfaced was also available. Daily Telegraph Senior Editor Bill Archer and fellow musician Karl Miller performed patriotic music at noon.
The Bluefield Blue Jays and their mascot Baby Jay arrived 11:30 a.m. to sign autographs.
“We came out today just for this sort of thing, and to meet the Blue Jays, eat a hotdog and walk around town,” said Edna Scarberry of Bluefield, Va., who brought her grandchildren, Chevy Bane and Jazmin Scarberry.
Art Riley, president of the Bluefield Downtown Merchants Association, looked at the audience filling the square.
“How about that crowd?” Riley said as Archer and Miller performed. “There’s probably about 150, 175 people here. Bill and Karl are putting on a heck of a show. There are a lot of people here we haven’t seen before, and that’s good.”
