Three arrested in prostitution sting

WELCH — Three women have been arrested and arraigned as part of a prostitution sting conducted in McDowell County.

The sting operation took place in the Jolo-Three Forks area, the Bartley-English area and Welch, Sheriff Martin B. West said in a release this morning. Wednesday night’s operation is part of an ongoing investigation. Undercover officers from outside the county worked in the operation. All three suspects were arrested by the sheriff’s department.

The three women who were arrested, Carrie Rose, 25, of the Bartley area; Elizabeth Morgan, 28, of Raysal; and Amanda Gilbert, 24, of Welch were charged with soliciting prostitution and arraigned before Magistrate Steve Cox. A $2,500 bond was set in each case. Each woman is at the McDowell County Holding Unit awaiting transport to the Southwestern Regional Jail.

Soliciting prostitution is misdemeanor carrying a penalty of not less than 60 days or more than six months in jail and a fine of $50 to $100, West said.
