About 40 Boy Scouts, who call Mississippi home, are now cleaning and revitalizing the old Bushnell field in Vivian in McDowell County. Scouts dealt with muggy heat and biting insects as they moved sand to create a new volleyball court. This work is part of the Day of Community Service each scout troop performs during the ongoing National Boy Scout Jamboree in Fayette County.

Besides the volleyball field, Scouts are repairing bleachers and repainting the field’s old press box.

“We are scraping it off, cleaning it and repainting it,” Venture Scout Hayden Zeigler, 15, said.

The project is only one of many underway in McDowell and Mercer Counties.
