Police say two men stole credit cards, other items, from Bluefield State College

BLUEFIELD —  Bluefield State College students and employees were alerted Thursday morning about the theft of credit cards and other items from campus offices late Wednesday afternoon.

Security videos recorded two male individuals on the campus at approximately 5:30 p.m., said Jim Nelson, a spokesman for Bluefield State. At that time, credit cards and a state of West Virginia purchasing card were taken from an office in the physical education building while an employee was away for a moment. She passed two male individuals as she returned.

“Shortly thereafter, she noticed that the credit cards were missing and she reported that to our campus public safety office,” Nelson said. “Not long after that, she received a text message noting that there was a credit card transaction on one of her missing credit cards that had been used in Wal-Mart in Bluefield, Va.”

The individuals were also seen in Conley Hall where they spoke to BSC employees and said they were there to see the college’s president. Security video also shows they went to Hatter Hall on the east end of campus. Several items were “disturbed or taken,” Nelson said.

Campus security is now working with the Bluefield Police Department and security at Wal-Mart, Nelson said. An alert was sent to students at approximately 8 a.m. today.
