TAZEWELL, Va. — A father and son have been charged with vandalism after deputies with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office received calls about suspicious vehicles in the Cove community of Tazewell County, Sheriff Brian Hieatt said Monday.

After responding to the area officers found Paul Donald Cruey, 38, of Cedar Bluff, and Nathan Allen Laney, 18, of Thompson Valley, Hieatt said. While at the scene the officers found where several rocks along the roadside had been spray painted and vandalized.

Hieatt said Deputy A. Jarvis, who investigated the incident, has charged both the father and son with one count each of vandalism, which is a misdemeanor crime in Virginia.

“We have such beautiful communities throughout Tazewell County and we take the act of someone trying to destroy it very seriously.”  Hieatt said.
