Customer service center in Pearisburg, Va. to close

PEARISBURG, Va. — As part of the ongoing integration of Caterpillar’s acquisition of Bucyrus, Caterpillar Global Mining America LLC is implementing plans to transfer rebuild and repair responsibilities for underground mining equipment to Cat dealers. As a result, the Underground Customer Service Center in Pearisburg, Virginia, will close effective July 1.

The closure will impact approximately 50 employees who perform rebuilds and repairs of underground mining machines and components as well as repairs of service exchange components for Cat dealers. “We value our Pearisburg employees’ contributions and these actions are not a reflection of them, but rather the result of our continued transition of some responsibilities to our Cat dealers,” as stated in a press release.

After July 1, Cat dealers will work directly with underground mining customers on rebuild and repair agreements and develop alternative parts sourcing.

Caterpillar is offering all impacted employees at the Pearisburg facility a severance package, working with appropriate agencies on outplacement services and looking to partner with area employers who may have openings for a skilled workforce.
