Local police were searching for answers about a shooting Monday afternoon outside a city residence.
Mercer County 911 received a call at approximately 12:45 p.m. about a woman who reported being shot in the leg outside her home at 1229 Essex Street, Chief Joe Wilson said.
The woman, whose name was not immediately available, was outside her house when a single gunshot hit her in the lower leg, Wilson said. Police have not had any recent reports of other gunshots being fired on that street.
Officers and members of the Bluefield Rescue Squad carried the woman from her home and transported her to a local hospital. Wilson did not know her current medical status.
Lt. C.S. Myers was interviewing the woman Monday afternoon, Wilson said.
Myers was not available for additional comment.
