Va. state senator released from hospital

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. —  State Sen. Creigh (kree) Deeds has been released from the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Spokesman Eric Swensen said Deeds was released Friday morning from the Charlottesville hospital. Deeds was airlifted from his home in Bath County Tuesday after police say his son stabbed him multiple times and then killed himself.

Swensen declined any additional comment on Deed’s release.

State police investigators are still attempting to understand what prompted the violent encounter between Deeds and his 24-year-old son, Gus. The two apparently had a close relationship.

Media outlets report that an emergency custody order was issued for Gus Deeds, but he was released because mental health workers could not find him a psychiatric bed.

The incident has cast a spotlight on the delivery of mental health services in Virginia
