Man guilty of robbery with BB gun sentenced

PRINCETON — A Mercer County man who was arrested in late October 2013 after using a BB gun to rob a man at gunpoint was sentenced Wednesday in Mercer County Circuit Court.

Joshua Willard, 23, of Bluefield, appeared before Circuit Court Judge Derek Swope for a disposition hearing. Willard was facing five to 18 years for armed robbery, and one to 15 years on a separate burglary charge, according to information at the Mercer County Circuit Clerk’s Office.

Swope sentenced Willard to a term of six months to two years at the Anthony Correctional Center, according to the circuit clerk’s office.

Willard was arrested at his home in late October 2013 after using a BB gun to rob and threaten a man. The investigating officer, Patrolman J.S. Bish of the Bluefield Police Department, said at the time of the arrest that the victim gave Willard $20, and then another $300 after his life was threatened.

Willard has been held at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver since his arrest.
