1 killed in Giles County crash

PEARISBURG, Va. — A Newport woman died Tuesday as a result of injuries received in a single-vehicle accident in Giles County.

The accident was reported Monday night at 11:35 p.m. on westbound U.S. Route 460, approximately three tenths of a mile east of Alpine Road. The driver of the vehicle, Linda Marie Hilton, 32, died Tuesday at a local hospital, according to a report by Trooper B.D. Williams of the Virginia State Police.

Williams said the 1994 Jeep Wrangler operated by Hilton ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and overturned ejecting the driver and three passengers. The three passengers in the vehicle were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, according to Corinne Geller, public relations director for the Virginia State Police.

Geller said all three passengers were still hospitalized Tuesday. Their identities and conditions were not immediately known.

The accident is still under investigation by Williams.
