Tazewell County Sheriff's Office plans compliance checks

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office began its annual underage buyer program Sunday.

Deputies will be taking minors into various retailers across Tazewell County and attempt to purchase alcohol and tobacco products. This program has been done with a grant provided for through Substance Abuse Task Force In Rural Appalachia (S.A.T.I.R.A.) for the past two years and it has been a success, said Sheriff Brian Hieatt. Deputies work with persons under the age of 21 to purchase alcohol and persons under the age of 16 to purchase tobacco products from the various retailers in the county.
