West Virginia State Police troopers have captured the inmate who escaped from the Steven’s Correctional Facility.
Lanny Markland, a trustee at the facility, walked off the property Thursday. Troopers with the State Police Welch detachment captured Markland this morning around 9:30 a.m., Sgt. C.F. Kane, detachment commander, said.
Markland’s escape triggered a county-wide manhunt Thursday, with Kane, Sgt. A.P. Christian, Cpl. B.J. Garretson, Trooper J.R. Coburn and Trooper C.A. Dunn participating in the search. McDowell County Sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Welch Police Department were also involved in the search for Markland.

An inmate from the Steven’s Correctional Facility escaped Thursday evening.
Lanny Markland was a trustee at the Steven’s Correctional Facility. He walked off the property and took off on foot, according to Cpl. B.J. Garrison State Police Welch Detachment.
Garrison, Tpr. J.R. Coburn, Tpr. C.A. Dunn, Sgt. C.F. Kane Welch detachment commander and Sgt. A.P. Christian Assistant detachment commander, along with McDowell Sheriff’s office and Welch Police Department are actively looking for Markland.
