First-degree murder and attempted murder were on the list Friday when the McDowell County Grand Jury issued the indictments resulting from its October session.
The grand jury turned in a total of 98 indictments.
Shona Darlene Riffe, 44, of Roderfield was indicted on a first-degree murder charge. Riffe was arrested March 3 after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend, Billy Haney Jr., 34, of Welch during a domestic argument, investigators with the Welch Police Department said at the time of her arrest.
The incident occurred on March 2 at a residence on Central Avenue in Welch. Officers found Haney deceased at the scene. Both Riffe and Haney lived at the home, Police Chief E.A. Muncy said after the arrest.
Riffe is currently incarcerated at the Southwestern Regional Jail in Logan County.
In a separate case, Tamara Lee Blackburn, 21, of Welch was indicted on charges including attempted murder of the first degree; malicious assault; leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury; failure to report an accident; and reckless driving resulting in bodily injury.
Blackburn was arrested in late September after allegedly trying to hit another woman with a car, said Patrolman First Class S.P. “Pat” McKinney of the Welch Police Department. The incident occurred at a Welch bar.
The case’s investigating officer, Patrolman First Class W. Rutherford, was not available for additional comment.
