A fatal shooting in the Mohawk community of McDowell County is being investigated as a homicide, police said Friday.
Deputies with the McDowell County Sheriffs Department responded to a complaint of a shooting Thursday night at 9:45 p.m. at a residence in the Mohawk community, near Panther.
Upon arrival at the residence, the deputies found Harry Arnold Edwards, 63, of Mohawk, deceased, Sheriff Martin B. West said.
West said investigators determined the man died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
West said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
According to Sgt. James Muncy with the sheriff’s department, Edwards’ sister and brother-in-law looked through a window and saw him laying on the floor. The two then forced their way into the home and dialed 911.
The sheriff’s department was assisted on scene by troopers with the West Virginia State Police, Welch detachment.
Muncy said authorities have identified a possible suspect. However, no arrests were reported in the case as of late Friday. The investigation continues.
