A hitchhiker who was stopped by an officer in McDowell County was arrested after throwing a sock full of drugs into the woods.
Steven Andrews, 36, a fugitive from Detroit, Mich., was arrested Sunday evening after police approached him in the Northfork Hollow area, Trooper J.K. Weiss, of the West Virginia State Police, Welch detachment, said.
The man was hitchhiking on Route 17 at 8 p.m. and threw a sock containing narcotics when Weiss exited his cruiser.
Weiss said Andrews threw the sock containing marijuana, pain pills and crack cocaine into the woods when he began to approach the man.
Weiss said Andrews has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance, and prohibited drug purchases or receipt. Weiss said Andrews is wanted in Michigan for a failure to appear in court charge.
Andrews was arraigned Monday morning before Magistrate Steve Cox who set bond at $60,000. Cox then remanded Andrews to the Southwest Regional Jail in Logan County.
