Mercer County law enforcement officers will be at PikeView High School and PikeView Middle School this morning out of an abundance of caution in response to some posts on social media concerning a threat of a shooting Monday or Tuesday at the high school.
“We’re going to have deputies at PikeView Middle School (tomorrow) morning before buses arrive, and the state police will have troopers at the high school before the school opens,” Mercer County Sheriff D.B. “Don” Meadows said. “There were some threats posted on Facebook and Instagram early (Sunday) and again in the afternoon. I’ve been in contact with Sgt. Jose Centeno (of the Princeton detachment, West Virginia State Police) and we’re taking appropriate precautions.”
Meadows said that authorities are also working to track down the origin of the threats, but did not comment on the status of the investigation.
