Mercer County man sought on failing to register as a sex offender

PRINCETON —  A warrant has been issued for a Princeton resident who is now facing a second-offense charge of failing to provide changes to his sex offender registration information.

Authorities are seeking Richard Lee Pettrey, Jr., 32, for failing to do his annual sex offender registration, said Trooper J.C. Long of the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment. Pettrey was convicted in Mercer County of first-degree sexual abuse in 2004. The victim was a girl between the ages of 6 and 12, according to the WVSP sex offender website. Pettrey served approximately four and a half years in prison and was later placed on five years of probation.

This would be Pettrey’s second offense, Long said. A conviction for a second offense failure to register carries a penalty of 10 to 25 years imprisonment.

Anyone with information can call the state police at 304-425-2101.

“They don’t have to talk to me,” Long added.
