Two injured in Route 52 accident

BLUEFIELD — Two people were transported to a Bluefield hospital following a two-car collision Thursday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Route 52 and Route 123/Airport Road.

Sgt. D.W. Miller, detachment commander of the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment, said the collision most likely occurred when one of the two vehicles involved ran a red light at the intersection, but Miller said further investigation is needed to determine which vehicle was at fault.

The driver of a dark red Chevrolet Tahoe and the driver of a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee were both transported to Bluefield Regional Medical Center via Bluefield Rescue Squad with non-life-threatening injuries following the accident.

There were no passengers in either vehicle. The Tahoe suffered front-end damage while the Grand Cherokee suffered damage to the passenger side and front end.
