BLUEFIELD, VA. — A man facing multiple DUI charges in connection with a McDowell County crash is now in custody in Tazewell County.

Trooper J.K. Weiss with the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment said Matthew Shawn Hamilton, 34, of Switchback, has been charged in connection with a June 17 crash on U.S. Route 52 near Northfork where he was ejected from his vehicle, but must first address outstanding warrants in Tazewell County before answering the McDowell County charges.

Weiss said Hamilton is currently incarcerated on warrants for possession of cocaine and hydromorphone out of Bluefield, Va. When those charges are addressed, Weiss said Hamilton will return to McDowell County to address seven charges stemming from the June 17 crash including second offense driving under the influence of prescription narcotics, driving revoked, reckless driving, failure to maintain control, driving left of center, driving without insurance and public intoxication.
