BLUEWELL — A Mercer County teenager was arrested Sunday on charges of concealing a juvenile female runaway from McDowell County and providing false information to state police.

Steven McKinney, 18, of Bluewell, was arrested on felony charges of concealing a minor, obstruction and providing false information to the West Virginia State Police, according to a preliminary report filed by Trooper B.R. Wood, of the Princeton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police.

McKinney is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.

The 17-year-old female had been reported as missing by the Paul Miller Shelter after failing to return home after school on Thursday. The Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police confirmed that the missing 17-year-old female had been returned, but did not release any information as to where she had been found.

In an article that appeared in Saturday’s edition of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, Trooper C.A. Dunn of the Welch Detachment said that the runaway was last seen at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday when she walked out of school about five or 10 minutes early and got into a vehicle.

Trooper Wood was not available for additional comment Sunday evening.
