Winter storm warning issued for region, heavy snow possible Thursday

BLUEFIELD — Forecasters are warning of the potential for heavy snow Thursday.

A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for all of the region, including, Mercer, McDowell, Tazewell, Bland, Monroe and Wythe counties.

The winter storm warning is in effect from noon Thurday to 1 a.m. Friday.

Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected with isolated higher amounts at higher elevations.

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Motorists are urged to exercise caution.
