CNHI names Princeton Times’ Toler ‘Columnist of the Year’

PRINCETON — Princeton Times Editor Tammie Toler has been honored as a “Columnist of the Year” in the Best of CNHI editorial competition.

Toler, a veteran area journalist, received a top columnist award in the non-dailies competition. The winners of the Best of CNHI competition were announced last week.

Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. (CNHI) is an Alabama-based media company and leading publisher of local newspapers, websites and niche publications serving more than 130 communities in 23 states. The CNHI contest recognizes individual and collective works of the company’s journalists. CNHI is the parent company of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and the Princeton Times.

Toler, a graduate of both Princeton Senior High School and Concord University, joined the Daily Telegraph staff as a copy editor in late 1999, and soon moved up to the position of news editor where she earned West Virginia Press Association awards for her page design and layout skills. She was later promoted to the position of editor and general manager of the Princeton Times, a position she has held for the past decade.

Under her leadership, the Princeton Times has become one of the state’s most highly honored weekly newspapers.

Toler, who suffered a stroke last week, remains hospitalized at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.

Anyone wishing to send get-well cards can mail them to Tammie Toler in care of Princeton Times, P.O. Box 1199, 109 Thorn St. Princeton, WV 24740.
