Freezing rain causes travel troubles across the region

GRUNDY, Va. — Rain and freezing temperatures have led to tricky highway conditions this morning throughout the region, especially in the higher elevations.

The conditions proved so bad in Buchanan County, Va., that county schools were closed, according to school board officials. A Virginia State Police dispatcher in Wytheville, Va., said that icy roads were causing problems throughout Division 4, and Tazewell County emergency personnel were alerted to dangerous driving conditions “especially in the higher elevations,” an emergency dispatcher said.
