Mercer County man is facing charges and possible extradition after being arrested in connection with an armed robbery in neighboring Giles County, Va.
Local law enforcement agencies were alerted at 11:30 p.m. Monday to be on the lookout for a light colored SUV connected with an armed robbery at the Burger Boy restaurant in Rich Creek, Va., Sgt. J. Centeno of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment said Tuesday morning. The vehicle was last reported on U.S. Route 460 heading toward Mercer County.
Cpl. P.H. Shrewsbury spotted an SUV on Route 460 matching the description and initiated a traffic stop, Centeno said. The driver was identified and items associated with the robbery were located.
Gary Dale Thompson, 28, of Princeton, was arrested as a fugitive from justice pending arraignment and extradition back to Virginia, Centeno said. The type of charges he could face will be determined in Virginia. Thompson is currently being held at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
Thompson was scheduled for an arraignment before Circuit Court Judge Omar Aboulhosn. Matters involving a felony from out of state and possible extradition must be brought before a circuit judge, Centeno stated.
The restaurant robbery is being investigated by the Rich Creek Police Department. Additional details about the incident were not available Tuesday.
