A Mercer County man suffered back and neck injuries Wednesday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving crossed the road, struck the end post of a section of guardrail and ripped and traveled another 55 feet before stopping in the northbound lane of U.S. Route 52 about 2 miles north of Bramwell.
Jason Riley Belcher, 30, of Bramwell, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck south on Rt. 52 when the vehicle crossed the highway and struck the guardrail, according to Sgt. S.C. Cary of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
The initial calls from the crash came at about 12:40 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, members of the Bluefield Rescue Squad worked to extricate the crash victim from the passenger side of the vehicle. After stabilizing the victim, rescue squad provided additional medical services prior to transporting him to a landing zone where he was transported to a hospital. The name of the hospital where Belcher was transported was not immediately available Wednesday afternoon.
