Little Jimmie still short of goal

BLUEFIELD — Time is quickly running out for the Community Christmas Tree to meet its campaign goal.

A large influx of donations Wednesday helped, but the campaign is still $1,692 short of its goal. The big party for more than 800 area children is now only three days away.

“In our 96-year history, we have never missed our goal,” Community Christmas Tree chair and Daily Telegraph Editor Samantha Perry said. “Although we are just a few days away from this year’s party, I am confident that the generous readers of the Daily Telegraph will come through for us. Little Jimmie is about helping kids in the spirit of Christmas. Our readers never let the children down.”

Contributions Wednesday of $1,490 brought this year’s campaign total to date to $28,308. But that is still $1,692 short of the campaign’s goal of $30,000. Help is still needed to ensure a joyous Christmas for more than 800 children who would otherwise go without this year.

Sponsored by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, the Community Christmas Tree — also known as the Little Jimmie campaign — provides toys, treats, a book, toboggan, a pair of gloves and other goodies to hundreds of local children in need each year.

Those who would like to contribute to the Community Christmas Tree program can mail donations to: Bluefield Daily Telegraph, c/o Community Christmas Tree, P.O. Box 1599, Bluefield, WV, 24701; or drop them off at the Daily Telegraph office. Checks should be made payable to the Community Christmas Tree Fund.
