A firefighter who joined the Bluefield Fire Department in 1993 will soon be its new chief, City Manager Jim Ferguson announced today.
Capt. Jeffrey Warden joined the department as a firefighter and advanced through the ranks to engineer, lieutenant and then to captain, Ferguson said. Warden will begin his new duties as chief within two weeks. The current interim chief, Glen Sutphin, will be a captain in the department.
“We had numerous applications that came in for me to select from, and I felt he was the top candidate based on his qualifications and his knowledge and experience in the job,” Ferguson said.
