Region under flood watch as low pressure system approaches

BLUEFIELD — The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., has issued a flash flood watch for much of the region.

The watch area includes Mercer, Tazewell, Monroe, Bland and Giles counties. A flood watch has been issued for McDowell and Buchanan counties.

The flash flood watch and flood watch are both in effect from this evening through Tuesday afternoon.

Bands of heavy rain are expected to produce widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches across the region, according to forecasters. A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based upon current forecast models.

Residents living in flood prone areas are urged to be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
