Search underway for Bluefield man who disappeared in McDowell County

WELCH —  An extensive search was conducted today for a Bluefield man who failed to return home after leaving his employer Monday in McDowell County.

Anthony Scott Testerman, 51, of Bluefield is a foreman at the Eckman Preparation Plant, said Trooper B.D. Gillespie of the West Virginia State Police Welch Detachment. Testerman was last seen 7 p.m. Monday when he left work. At 1:13 a.m. Tuesday, McDowell County 911 was notified that he was missing.

Testerman was driving a company vehicle, a red Dodge Quad Cab pickup truck, Gillespie said. His cell phone was called, and the signal led searchers to a mining haul road near Elkhorn Mountain where his unlocked truck was found. The cell phone was found in the truck, and the vehicle’s keys were in the ignition.

A search started at 4 a.m. Tuesday with the West Virginia State Police, McDowell County Sheriff’s Department, the state Department of Natural Resources, the Virginia State Police, and approximately 50 workers from ArcelorMittal, Testerman’s employer, participating, Gillespie said. Dogs with K-9 units and a helicopter were utilized in the search.

There were no signs of foul play as of Tuesday. People with information should call the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment at 304-436-2101.
