AFTERNOON UPDATE — G-Men, Bulldogs ready for Southwest District clash

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

BLUEFIELD, Va. — County rivals will square off Friday night as the Tazewell Bulldogs travel to Mitchell Stadium to face the Graham G-Men. The Bulldogs (4-3, 1-2) are coming off a 35-13 win over Honaker last week.

"We felt like we needed to get back to a better rushing attack," said Tazewell Coach Bobby Wyatt. "The last couple of weeks before that, especially against Richlands, we were passing on nearly every down and we had to contend with seven or eight men rushing the quarterback on every play. We needed to do something about that and help control the clock a little more while we were at it, so we took a couple of practices and got back to basics, you might say."

The G-Men (1-5, 1-1) are coming off their first win of the season, a 49-19 triumph over Grundy.

"We knew we were getting better," said Graham head coach Doug Marrs. "After practice last week, it never even entered my mind that we wouldn't go down to Grundy and succeed because we had such good practices last week and it was good to know that the feeling we left here feeling on Thursday was carried out, the plan was carried out and we executed it about like we wanted to."
