Police make arrest in Bluewell area shooting death

By CHARLES OWENS
Bluefield Daily Telegraph

BLUEWELL — A Bluewell man was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 19-year-old woman.

Edward Omarrah Jr., 30, of Bluewell, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of Renee Lorine Coleman, 19, of Lorton Lick Road and formerly of Panther, Trooper First Class A.P. Christian, of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment, said.

Coleman died late Tuesday at Bluefield Regional Medical Center as a result of a single gunshot wound to the chest. The woman was shot at a residence on Lorton Lick Road near Bluewell.

Christian said four children were at the residence at the time of the shooting, but were not injured. Christian said Ommarah initially told police the shooting was accidental.

“His initial claims of an accidental shooting were found to be untrue based on statements received from him,” Christian said.

Christian said the shooting was the apparent result of an argument between the man and woman.

“It was just an argument that led to the shooting,” Christian said. “Mr. Ommarah reported it as an accidental shooting.”

Omarrah was scheduled to be arraigned on the first-degree murder charge late Wednesday. The man is scheduled to appear before a circuit court judge today for a bond hearing.

Christian said the shooting occurred at a residence in the Lorton Lick community located about a mile south of the U.S. Route 52 intersection.
