Tall Town Festival sets stage for family fun in Bluefield, Va.

By GREG JORDAN
Bluefield Daily Telegraph

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Tours of a major landmark, concerts, artists, vendors and more are on the schedule this Friday and Saturday for the Tall Town Festival in Bluefield, Va.

The hub of activities will be at the Sanders House at the end of College Avenue the Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27, said Barbara Bates of Bluefield, Va. The Sanders House will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Tours of the house, railroad museum and Spring House will be available. Admission is $5 for adults, and children get in free.

On Friday, the Back Porch Pickers will have a free concert at the Gazebo in downtown Bluefield, Va. at 7 p.m.

A second concert will be conducted 8 p.m. Saturday at Bluefield College by the Crooked Road Players & Singers. Admission is $12 at the door and $10 in advance. Tickets are available at New Graham Pharmacy, Leslie Ann’s, Paper & More, and the Visitors Center at Sanders House.

Downtown walking tours will be offered on both days of the Tall Town Festival, Bates said. This will include an antique car show, the First United Methodist Church and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church along with downtown stores. Seven will be displaying collections owned by individual residents. Bluestone Interiors is donating curio cabinets for the exhibits.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Auxiliary VFW will sell Tall Town Festival t-shirts at the Gazebo from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday. The cost is $10, and the profits will benefit Sanders House.

Storytelling will be offered at Graham Middle School both days from 10 a.m. to noon, and from 2 to 4 p.m. The school is five minutes from the Sanders House, Bates said.
