Two Okla. fugitives nabbed by McDowell Sheriff’s Department

By CHARLES OWENS
Bluefield Daily Telegraph

WELCH — Two fugitives on the run from the state of Oklahoma have been nabbed in Bradshaw by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department.

A man wanted since 2005 and a female wanted since 2006 were arraigned Monday before Magistrate Pete Beavers, and ordered held without bond pending extradition back to the state of Oklahoma, sheriff’s department Chief Deputy Mark Shelton said.

Shelton said the two WERE located in the Bradshaw area late Monday night.

Shelton said the male subject attempted to flee from deputies with the sheriff’s department and troopers with the West Virginia State Police Welch Detachment, prompting officials to have to use a taser gun.

Shelton said Becoy Andrew Hawkes, 36, of the Oklahoma City area, was wanted for failure to appear for court, larceny of motor vehicles, and three counts of burglary. Shelton said Shana Lynn Hawks, 34, also of the Oklahoma City area, was wanted for receiving and concealing stolen property.

Shelton said Deputy J.E. Muncy along with troopers from the West Virginia State Police Welch Detachment located the two along Estep Ridge near the town of Bradshaw late Sunday night.

“The sheriff’s office was acting on a tip, and went to a residence on Estep Ridge,” Shelton said. “We were assisted by the state police.”

Shelton said officials had to use a taser gun on the male subject who attempted to flee from the residence. Both were being held in the county holding facility Monday awaiting extradition back to Oklahoma.
