AFTERNOON UPDATE — Family rescued from carbon monoxide poisoning

— PEARISBURG, Va. — Giles County emergency responders arrived at a Wabash Community residence early Sunday morning in order to provide help to four members of a family that were suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Giles 911 emergency dispatchers received a call at 5:46 a.m., Sunday morning to the Collins family residence at 369 Eaton Lane, Pearisburg, Va., according to Giles County Sheriff Morgan Millirons. Emergency services paged the Pearisburg Fire Department, poplar Hill Fire Department, Giles Ambulance Authority, Giles Rescue Squad, Virginia State Police and sheriff’s deputies.
“The power went off at the residence at about 1 a.m., Sunday morning,” Millirons said. “The father went into the basement of the home and started a generator. Somehow, the generator fumes came up into the living quarters and incapacitated the family.
