Giles County mayoral, town council races decided

By GREG JORDAN
Bluefield Daily Telegraph

PEARISBURG, Va. — Vote totals for mayoral and town council races in Pearisburg, Narrows, Glen Lyn and Rich Creek were tabulated Tuesday evening in Giles County, Va.

Unofficial totals were submitted to the Virginia State Board of Elections, said Registrar Donna Alitzer. A total of 322 votes were cast in the county.

“My board will start their canvas at 9:30 a.m. [today] and if there are any changes there will be an explanation,” she said.

In the Town of Pearisburg, Va.. three incumbent candidates, Robert L. Dickerson, Jr., Daniel H. Robertson and Jimmie R. Williams were up for re-election on the town council. There were no challengers and three seats were open.

With the single precinct reporting results Dickerson had 39 votes, Robertson had 34, Williams had 40, and there were three write-in votes.

The Town of Narrows, Va., election had incumbent Mayor H. Clayton Davis running unopposed on the ballot along with incumbent council members Thomas S. Garrett and Roger A. Martin. Candidate William C. Holt was also in the race. Three seats were open for town council.

With the votes counted, Davis had 142 votes and there were 17 mayoral write-in votes. In the council race, Garrett had 136 votes. Martin had 125 votes followed by Holt with 70 votes. Write-in council votes amounted to 118.

In the Town of Glen Lyn, Va., race, only four candidates were seeking the five seats on the Glen Lyn Town Council. Three incumbents, Ricky L. Crawford, Donita F. Spangler and Nila J. Spencer were seeking re-election along with candidate Leanne A. Barley. Mayor T. Rick Ould, Jr. was unopposed for re-election.

Ould had 14 votes and there was one write-in vote. In the council race, Crawford had 14 votes, Spangler had 10, Spencer had 17 and Barley had 12. Twelve write-in council votes were tabulated.
