GRUNDY, Va. — Incumbents were leading Tuesday evening after the votes were counted in the Town of Grundy elections.
Incumbent Mayor W. Roger Powers was up for re-election, and the challenger was Robert E. “Bob” Hale. Town council candidates included incumbents E. Diann Hagy, Chris A. Mitchell and M. Gary Prater and challengers Amanda Gaye Blankenship and Jimmy H. Goff. Three seats were open.
In the mayoral race, Powers had 173 votes and Hale had 90 votes, said Buchanan County Registrar Vicki Clevinger.
When the votes in the town council race were tabulated, Hagy had 148 votes in unofficial returns, Mitchell had won 161 votes and Prater had 153. Candidate Blankenship had 119 votes and Goff had 61.
Grundy has only 675 registered voters, Clevinger said. She did not have a count showing how many voted Tuesday. Sixteen absentee ballots were cast.
