PRINCETON —  These pumpkins don’t have any election ads. Neither do they plan to debate how they will help folks of the two Virginias celebrate Halloween. Call it a beauty pageant for pumpkins.

Brenda Harless, the office manager at Lindsey Optical in Princeton, and the staff,  have been carving and designing pumpkins for five years. Harless said they wanted to give their customers a reason to enjoy the holiday, and offer them a chance to win as well.

People can cast a vote for their favorite pumpkin at the office, or they can cast a vote on the Lindsey Optical Facebook Page by liking their favorite pumpkin photo. Those who vote can win $100. The staff enjoys bragging right for 2012.

“Folks seem to enjoy it,” Harless said. “It has gotten bigger and better every year.”

The staff spends about 5-6 hours decorating and carving their pumpkins. Last year, Jessica Lee won with a hamburger pumpkin. Harless said they come up with their ideas from the Internet or creative thinking.

Voting ends on Monday, Oct. 29 at 5 p.m., Harless added. Folks can enter twice by visiting the office and voting on Facebook. Lindsey Optical is located on Locust Street in Princeton. For more information, call 304-487-2020.
