BLUEFIELD — Stop and smell the roses. That is what the Bluefield Beautification Commission hopes residents will do during Through the Garden Gate, a tour of some of the most-beloved gardens in Bluefield on Saturday, Aug. 11. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day of the tour at Bland Street Methodist Church. Gail Satterfield, chairman of the committee, said there will also be a garden bazaar with vendors at the church and a chance to view the Brad Jackson Prayer Garden.
Participants will be given a map and can tour the gardens at their leisure starting at 2 p.m., Satterfield said. The event will end with a garden party with live entertainment and complimentary wine, beer, lemonade and hors d’oeuvres at the home of David Hardin and Terry Whittington at 618 Mountain View Avenue.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at all Grants Supermarkets locations, Paper & More, Goodykoontz Drug Store, the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce and the Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau. A rain date is scheduled for Aug. 12. Proceeds will benefit the Bluefield Beautification Commission. For more information, visit www.beautifulbluefield.com.
