Historic cemetery should be preserved

This comment is in regard to the dumping of trash at the Bluewell Oak Grove Cemetery.

Although it is probable that those who trash and desecrate the area do not read the paper, is there not a way to put together an investment which in the long run would guarantee that the cemetery is secure, the grass mowed and the headstones and graves protected?

There are many Bluefield State College professors and presidents buried there. It is such a shame to disrespect the memories of these people by trashing their resting place! Perhaps BSC staff and students can begin by collecting volunteers and funds to assist, and community foundations and other local clubs can raise funds to assist this effort.

Let’s do our best to preserve and respect this historical cemetery.

Dr. Tom Blevins
