Bluefield Daily Telegraph
Last Friday at 6:15 p.m. we (who are senior citizens) were traveling south on Route 52, just south of Bluewell, when a bolt penetrated our left rear tire. We were surveying the damage and considering our options when a nice young West Virginia State Police trooper approached us and asked if we needed help.
We expected him to suggest whom we should call, and were completely taken aback when he asked, “Do you have a spare? Pop your trunk lid!” He proceeded to get our spare out and start changing the tire when his companion, another on-duty West Virginia trooper brought out a hydraulic jack to speed the process.
The two had the tire changed in less than 10 minutes and were back on the road again before we hardly had a chance to say, “Thank you!” We’re ashamed we didn’t even get their names. We would like for them to know that we consider this kindness of theirs to be way above the call of duty, and we will always be grateful to them.
