Bluefield Coal Show success continues

— — On behalf of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce and the Bluefield Coal Show, we want to thank all of the exhibitors and attendees that participated in the recent 20th biennial show. Over 240 exhibitors showcased their products and services during the three-day event.

The coal industry faces many challenges in the coming months and years as increased and stifling regulations are imposed by the federal government, and less costly forms of energy are being produced. These issues were highlighted during the show by speakers from coal associations in West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania along with a keynote speech from Bob Murray of Murray Energy.

While final numbers are not yet available, it appears that total attendance was down slightly from the record year of 2011. In addition, the new parking/shuttle program was generally well received and will be refined for the show in 2015.

Volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors make the Bluefield Coal Show the success it has always been. An amazing effort is put forth by all of those involved and the community as a whole. We look forward to seeing everyone again Sept. 16-18, 2015, for the next Bluefield Coal Show — “A Coal Show for Coal People.”

general chairman

George McGonagle,

Chairman of the Board
