Be objective, fair with comments

— — During the Graham-Beaver game last Friday, there were some people handing out blue flyers concerning patients’ care at Bluefield Regional Medical Center (BRMC). Some of what it said is that there is a concern about the quality of care for patients by nurses, and that Community Health Systems is a big multi-million corporation who does not care about patients.

I find it very offensive to we physicians, nurses and all health care professionals at BRMC, that someone will question the quality of our care and our level of commitment to our patients. I treat a lot of patients at BRMC, and many of them have complimented the nursing staff and the good care they received at the hospital.

I know that the nurses in the operating room and on the floors are doing their best to provide the highest quality of care possible, I work with them every day and applaud their dedication. Of course no one is perfect and there is always room for improvement.

I also do not understand what is wrong with a multi-million dollar corporation running BRMC. For one it saved it from going bankrupt and, secondly, it is spending millions of dollars in our community by recruiting new physicians, saving and providing a lot of jobs, getting state-of-the-art equipment to our operating room, like A Da Vinci Robot, a Holmium Laser, and updating the reception area and the different departments at the hospital.

We always need to look at both faces of the coin, and be fair in judging people by looking at the positive impact and not only the negative, and let our criticism be constructive.

This is my personal opinion and I felt an obligation to express it, not to defend anyone but to be objective and fair.
