A ‘thank you’ to a special teacher

— — I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to retired teacher, Mrs. Marsha Platnik. Mrs. Platnik has tutored our Mercer County students who participate in Math Field day competition for a number of years.

Mrs. Platnik travels to the various schools in Mercer County to work with these students. There are times when the students come to her house for tutoring; she has also transported them to local businesses to teach them how to estimate content.

She has made it possible for our children to explore future opportunities they may not otherwise be exposed to.

I recently attended the annual regional Math Field Day competition held at Concord University, which included adjoining county winners. The Mercer County students, under Mrs. Platnik’s tutelage, made a fantastic showing.

The winning students for the region, which includes six counties, will now advance to the state competition to be held at Bethany College, in Wheeling, WV, April 26th.

Mrs. Platnik has worked diligently with Mercer County students for a number of years.

The time and effort she has placed with these students is exceptional, even in retirement.

Thank you very much, Mrs. Platnik.
