Bluefield Daily Telegraph
The city of Bluefield’s powers that be need to put the reason for the closure of the Kroger food chain’s store on Cumberland Road in perspective. Food City had nothing to do with the residents of Bluefield not shopping at Kroger. While Kroger was open you could go by Walmart or Sam’s Club, and the parking lot would be full of West Virginia tagged vehicles on the Virginia side. You could then drive up by Kroger and see its lot empty.
A business has to create enough volume to make a profit to remain open. I’m sure Mr. Steve Smith (CEO of K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc.) has enough to keep him busy without listening to people complaining of what they have created. Food City is very generous to various programs in our area in time of need, also hiring students part time on both sides of the Virginia-West Virginia line.
We noticed that ABC stores in your area are still open! And the parking lots are full.
