Capital punishment needed in W.Va.

— — I commend Delegate John Overington, R-Berkeley, who has introduced House Bill 2595 which would make the death penalty an option for people convicted of first-degree murder. I also commend the co-sponsers, Delegate Joe Ellington, R-Mercer, Delegate John Shott, R-Mercer and Delegate Marty Gearheart, R-Mercer.

I am very proud of these three delegates who represent Mercer County as co-sponsers of this bill. It is time we get some common sense back in government.

First-degree murderers have gotten off with light sentencing and plea bargains for too long. Capital punishment is biblical. Read Romans chapter 1 verses 29-32, note this is the new testament not the old testament writing.

It is reported that the sate of Texas executes more first-degree murderers than any other state. Texas also has the lowest per capital murder rate of any other state. It does not take Texas 10 years in appeals to execute them either. They are executed on an average of 21 months. No wonder our prisons are overcrowded.

Statistics will prove that most all criminals are repeat offenders, If they are executed they cannot repeat the crime.

Wake up West Virginians, the ultra-liberals have run our state and nation for too long. Let us take America back.

Benny Buckner
