Cut costs before more people leave

— — Did anyone read the article in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph about the businesses closing their doors because of high energy prices? When this happens people start leaving West Virginia because they can’t absorb the utilities rate. We already pay higher energy bills than a lot of other states, plus when people leave and businesses close we are left to pick up the pieces.

My question is why can’t the leaders in Bluefield see the problem — high energy costs, higher gas prices than Virginia, and now propane is going to cash in for their share. Add to that B&O taxes and the discussion of raising real estate taxes. Start by cutting costs or there is going to be no Bluefield. This is just my opinion. I think we have a hard enough time paying our own bills without picking up the losses. We can’t absorb any more. Be careful or there’s not going to be a Bluefield. To fix the problem, start cutting costs on all utilities or more and more people are going to leave.
